Swindon Town v Gillingham Preview
Swindon Town v Gillingham Preview

Gillingham head to the County Ground on Tuesday night looking to take on and beat an old rival.

Swindon Town, now managed by former West Ham United striker Paulo Di Canio, have a long rivalry with the Gills and fans are expected to travel in their numbers to Wiltshire for probably the biggest game of the season so far.

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler will be forced into making changes to the side that beat Oxford United at the weekend with both Joe Martin and Lewis Montrose suspended after picking up red cards.

That will give opportunities to others to come into the side with Danny Jackman and Charlie Lee the most likely pair to come into the side.

Hessenthaler has two fitness doubts ahead of the game with Frank Nouble (knee) and Chris Whelpdale (ankle) struggling to be fit in time with Danny Kedwell waiting in the wings to come back into the side.

Should both be passed fit, Gillingham could line up like this:

Flitney, Fish, Richards, Lawrence, Jackman, Whelpdale, Lee, Weston, Rooney, Kuffour, Nouble.

Subs: Gazzaniga, Frampton, Essam, Kedwell, S Payne.

Many of the players could go to Wiltshire unaware of the long standing rivalry between the two sets of fans, but they should be under no illusion that this is one of the fixtures on the calendar that is most eagerly awaited by the travelling faithful.

Anything less than 100% against Swindon and the fans could go home disappointed.
